Hello everyone,
It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through 2022 already. The first part of the year has really flown by for me, being busy as always with classes and spending much of my non-teaching time working on my 200 hour Yoga teacher training course via Union Yoga UK. I’ve loved being fortunate enough to be able to devote my this time to my yoga journey as this has been a path I have wanted to follow for some time now.
In the West, yoga tends to emphasise the physical yoga postures, known as asanas. It’s important to emphasise though that the asanas are only one aspect of yoga. Yoga has become trendy, glamorised by bendy people contorting themselves against a wonderful beach backdrop or expensive studio for the purposes of social media and due to this, yoga can often be misunderstood by many who don’t understand it’s real history and true purpose as a spiritual practice.
Of course, you can tone the body and decrease the size of your waistline but that’s not the real purpose, which is to cultivate awareness, and self-regulation and develop higher consciousness. The main goal is to live consciously, instead of searching for happiness outside of us, it’s the realisation of the Divine within us or Self- Realisation. Yoga is a system of total health – physical, mental, social and spiritual.
Following the summer break, I’m very much looking forward to adding some Yoga classes to the timetable, along with mini half and full-day yoga retreats at various times throughout the year.
Wishing you a lovely summer.
Denise
